Problem is AI does cocaine about 20% of the time before giving you an answer so it's not trustworthy yet.
Darn, I was just about to quit my job and go all in on SEO
Great video Mike, very interesting thougts. and real future with AI
Great video. Thanks Mike!
Adobe.
Great content. I own a digital marketing agency and this topic comes up several times a week at our office.
Great Video Mike. So good.
Insightful
Great points, thank you! If I'm not mistaken Openai searchGPT will provide an AI generated snippet + link back to the source because they want to avoid any copyright issues. Seems like an evolution of SEO wherein content creators don't have to worry as much about formatting things in a particular way for search engines – search engines can scrape the content and create the snippets from any unstructured content. Maybe SEO is taking a dent right now because businesses have limited marketing budgets and AI is taking a big chunk of it? SEO is a long term game and businesses are afraid they'll get run over if they don't get on the AI wagon.
Really interesting take on the future of SEO! Here are a few takeaways:
-SEO is evolving, not dying it is about adapting to the changes
-Focus on providing real value to users not just search engines
-Embrace new strategies like AI and user experience to stay ahead
Thanks for sharing your insights and helping us navigate what is next!
This has been one of the most eye-opening videos Iāve seen in a very long time. Iāve been very concerned with issue of AI reducing, if not totally eliminating website traffic from search engines, specifically from Google searches. But itās also something Iāve suffered ridicule about from the few people Iāve discussed this with.
As for me, Iāve ALWAYS believed in outbound marketing as the most secure way to build a base of business (maybe because I started business marketing in the late 1970s long before the Internet, Google, et al). Like you, I much prefer to control my own destiny.
Thanks for the video, and I look forward to seeing more from you.
Speaking of AI, ow did Gemini do? . . . š
Here is a summary of SEO Is Dead in 2024 and What to Do by Mike Gastin
In this video, Mike Gastin talks about the impact of AI on SEO. The main argument of the video is that SEO is dead and what you should do about it. The speaker argues that AI has fundamentally changed the way SEO works by allowing machines to generate large volumes of high-quality content quickly and easily. This has made it difficult for businesses to compete for visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs).
The speaker offers four pieces of advice for businesses looking to stay ahead of the curve in the age of AI:
Build your own audience on social media or other platforms.
Invest in outbound marketing, such as paid advertising or direct mail.
Diversify your marketing channels to avoid relying on any one platform.
Focus on building relationships with customers directly through email marketing or other means.
so nice

Local SEO + Google 3-Pack is still king. But basically you are right!
Hi Mike, I appreciate your thoughts on this but in my humble opinion I think youāve fallen into the same trap as many other SEO Doomsayers. There are many types of search intent and some do lend themselves to being satisfied by AI generated responses. So assuming that the new snippets will be entirely AI generated by Google then top of the funnel informational queries and quick answer type queries will perhaps be out of the āoptimisationā reach and Google will create their own responses on the fly complete with their own affiliate deals.
This informational type content is exactly what Income School have been advocating for years, monetised with display ad networks and affiliate deals. These will likely be affected and those complaining in r/seo are those types.
Of course, thatās assuming that Google is allowed to operate in that way, we are already seeing the USA and the EU finding that Google is acting in an unfair and monopolistic way. This may force Google to let independent content creators back into the game.
SEO agencies like mine donāt tend work with info blogs but with businesses monetised through selling products or services and the middle of the funnel to transactional queries are unlikely to be affected in the same way as āblog styleā content. Middle and bottom of the funnel queries are best served by businesses as people are looking for other people to solve their problems. Google will have a difficult job serving pizza, legal services or clothes to people.
Service or product orientated businesses whether hyper local or nationwide will still have the same SERPs as they do now, and as long as there are algorithms sorting and filtering web pages then SEO will be alive and well.
The rest of your advice around diversifying traffic sources, building community and owning āyour listā is as old as the hills yet so rarely done by businesses even today and is the real āgolden nuggetā in your message.
Excellent informative video. Thanks so much Mike. I've just signed up for your newsletter.
Income School were great, I built a site using their methods and was able to quit my job and travel for a couple of years from the earnings off that site. It all got wiped out by the HCU last year. It's very depressing how search is going now. AI is terrible for the Internet.
What are your thoughts on the implications for local search and the new google business practices
SEO is still alive for real businesses that sells services or products, dead for content only sites.
